Back in 2007 I had a small heart attack and I had 3 stents placed in my heart. Just a few months after that, I needed to have another stent placed.
In May of 2009 I was told by my doctors that I had a major artery that was 70% blocked. It wasn't an emergency at the time but if I waited until it was, I wouldn't make it to the emergency room. My options were shown to me but I really had no choice. At 37 years old, I would have to have a quadruple bypass.
My grandmother was the only person I knew that had a surgery like this and she passed away a few years ago. I turned to the Internet hoping to find some information about what was about to happen to me from the patients side of things. What could I expect to happen after the surgery? I didn't really find anything. Everything I found was from a clinical point of view about the procedure itself and not very much help with what I was looking for.
I decided to start this journal to tell my story. It's a way for me to communicate what's happening with me to friends and loved ones since I'm really not much of a phone guy. I really hate talking on the phone. It's a place for me to keep track for myself of everything. It's so much going on that I just can't keep it all together in my head.
I'm also hoping that someone who's facing the same things I am currently going through will run across this and hopefully get something from this that will help them understand and deal with what's happening to them.
